I corrected my post...I don't think you can just take a year off.

You have 5 years to finish 4 years of participation including the redshirt. Unless the NCAA allows it due to coronavirus this one year. But if the season is shortened, I would expect a freshman that was on the fence to redshirt to definitely redshirt now.
