While you’re not wrong in genera

A substantial weight cut can mean different things to different people. Cutting from 215 to 197 is a hell of a lot easier than 143 to 125.

I would think a lot of it depends on water weight and Mekhi’s body composition. The coaches have never seemed to put out someone at a weight that they didn’t seem happy and healthy at. I mean, weight cutting is part of the sport, but I have trouble remembering more than one or two guys in the last 4-5 years who were cutting too much.

I think Mekhi will go wherever he is most comfortable at, and where the coaches think he’d be best at. It’s very clear that he trusts the coaches (especially Frayer) to do right by him, so if they ask him to go 174, I’m sure he wouldn’t hesitate.

Regardless, I do think the Olympic Trials won’t factor too much into it, at least not at the beginning of the season.
