be trademark negotiation, need to lock down website name before announcement, uniforms for this season have to be decided on now (probably).

Abe Pollin announced that he was changing the Bullets name in November 1995, announced the Wizards name in late February 1996, name went into effect for 1997-98 season. The name was chosen 3.5 to 4 months after the initial announcement. The big difference is that the NBA kept playing as the Bullets for 2 years, the football team cannot. If it takes 3.5 months to announce a new name for the football team, it will be early November.
