VA DMV Road Skills Test

If you are taking the VA road skills test at a DMV (as opposed to with a driving school) and it comes to parking, pulling in, or backing in, do you have to do it in one motion or can you stop, readjust (as long as you don't hit a cone) and still pass? My stepson is taking the next week. He's fine to park if he can readjust, but one motion is a struggle.
