Have had underground for 30 years so never lost power during big storms

especially during snow storms in the winter, but after about ten years we started having these micro outages, a couple times a month come home to all your clocks blinking and often on beautiful 80 degree sunny days. Turns out the underground cables were corroding. Fortunately, we were on the same phase as the Harris Teeter and the shopping center up the street, guessing they had some pull, so eventually something got done about oh, about 5-10 years ago, big deal going back to the substation miles away, made the news.

This whole area got developed at the same time, shopping center, town houses etc, so guessing BritAm development corporation went cheap as possible putting in the infrastructure so I suspect this meandering story won't apply to you. In general though it was still a lot better not to be one of the folks who were knocked out during the big storms.
