For years I had plans in my head about what should be done with those holes, and wondered if anyone would ever care about a small-time project like that. Lo and behold, Lester George got up in there and did the place up right, and on a budget, too!

For those who never heard of Lester George or golf architecture in general, he is basically the only bonafide Virginia golf architect I can think of. The most important works of his that you might know are Ballyhack GC up in Roanoke, and the restoration of Charles Blair Macdonald's 1914 Old White at the Greenbrier.

Considering George's work at Old White, I guess you could call him a CBM expert -- and in fact he managed to throw in a couple of proper Macdonald/Raynor template holes at the Hill (#3 - Redan; #9 - Principal's Nose).

I'm impressed that the town of Blacksburg thought enough of their muni golf to go out and get Lester George. Every golfer in Bburg should consider themselves lucky.
