I have a box named emergency that contains all

the breakers that the generator will run. The other box is the main panel. When I lose power I plug the generator into the outside receptacle, Then I throw the switch on the main panel to off. Then I turn the emergency box to the on position. (making sure all the breakers are turned off.) Then I start the generator and turn the breakers on one at a time.

It sounds more complicated than it is . Tricky part is know when the power company power is back on. I live in the stix (no neighbors) so I don't know when the power is turned back on.
