I experienced a first today: lifeguards cleared the water due to a shark.

Everyone in my family was seated on the beach when the nearest lifeguard jumped off her stand and began blowing her whistle and frantically motioning for everyone to get out of the water. I assumed it was for a shark sighting, but didn't actually see the shark. We spoke briefly to the folks sitting near us who confirmed the reason - the father said he had seen it just a minute or two before the lifeguard did. He said it looked huge.
