In the regular season you have to pace yourself as a player


So any given night they might be going anywhere from 80-100% depending on their health and fatigue level.

But in the playoffs if you lose the series you are out. So it is 120% for everyone all game every game. Only a major injury will slow down a hockey player in the playoffs. And the teams that can't maintain that intensity get knocked out, no matter how much talent they might have. It is fast, physical and no room for error.
