Agreed the partying narrative and shaming is a bit much & counter...


productive. There is no questioning that partying can cause a major spread of COVID. There is no question not wearing a mask indoors in a public setting can cause a major spread. But, you could also not party and wear always wear a mask in public and still get COVID especially when your locality turns into a hot spot and Blacksburg is definitely a hot spot right now. And, you can also have a party with 1,000 people, no masks and no one catches COVID.

There's a lot of students, school officials, town residents, etc. that are blaming all the spread on students partying and not wearing a mask and that's not true.

And, I think the suspensions and threats from universities while helpful on some level (slows down the partying), but are also can be counter productive because you have students who no longer want to report that they are sick or who have been exposed due to the risk of suspension and facing the stigma that society is putting on COVID. The worse thing that could happen is someone not seek medical help and then get really sick from COVID because they are worried about the potential consequences.
