Yep, good read.
News is certainly big TV this year, and digital keeps shrinking traditional television. But still, this year's NBA Finals were down 70% from 2018, the last time James was in the Finals, with Cleveland. Last year's numbers were a bit skewed because Nielsen couldn't count one of the home markets - Toronto - in its totals. In my view, it's all those factors noted before, plus sports being down some in general, but I also think some of it is on LeBron James. I personally don't care what social positions he takes, but I do think people are seeing him more as a social commentator, rather than a winning-is-the-only-thing hoops player like Jordan was. It might be a small sliver, but some audience is leaving the NBA because of that.
