Coach D'Amour: "We ended the week better than we started"

This was his tweet Saturday morning:

"We ended the week better than we started. It was the best week of practice this fall. Thankful for this weeks effort. #SbD"

On a personal note, I caught part of an intersquad scrimmage Friday afternoon and although I was only able to see most of the second game, I remain encouraged that this team is going to have a special year.

The pitching looked pretty good. I saw Ivy Rosenberry, pitch against Keara Napoli as Keely reportedly pitched against Mackenzie Osborne in the first game. Because I was late arriving, I did not keep a scorebook, but I felt good about what I did see. I can also dispel the rumors about Kaylee Hewitt – she is very much still on the team, but neither she nor Molly Jacobsen saw action Friday.

The freshmen continue to impress me – this time in the field. Both Addy Green (second base) and Emma Ritter (left field) made diving catches that probably would have made SportsCenter had they been made during the regular season. By the way, this team has a TON of speed and it should give opponents fits this year.

Jayme Bailey remains on fire and hit another dinger as did Maddy Federico. Meredith Slaw got badly fooled on a changeup from Ivy only to deposit the very next pitch deep over the centerfield fence. This team WILL score runs – probably a lot of them - and should be fun to watch.

Sorry for the abbreviated report, but it's been a crazy week.

Let's Go Hokies!
