Ladies and germs of the Lounge, please give a warm welcome
to Ms. Jessie!!
She is here now - her foster mom just left. The backstory on this little sweetheart is another of those amazing stories that tell of a dog's faith that bad treatment won't prevail and sooner or later a forever home will arise. For Jessie, that happened today.
She is a little younger and a little smaller than we thought - small build at about 49 pounds and about half Bodie's height. She's not quite two years old, although her birthplace or age are unknown. The good news is they treat each other with respect and curiosity and their hour-long meet and greet went flawlessly.
Jessie and her sister were discovered in rural Chesterfield, SC, in an unoccupied home someone came to renovate. They had been abandoned, and it was obvious they had not been fed or cared for, since they'd been eating wallboard. Both girls were pregnant, and Jessie's sister went into labor on the way to the Lancaster SC rescue vet clinic. Both had their litters, so now at the equivalent of just under 14 human years old, Jessie is a mom. All her puppies have been adopted and she's been with her foster family since early June.
She has been spayed, heartworm tested negative three times, fully checked tail to nose, immunized, wormed and is in remarkably good health. Jessie's older sister, Helen (yes, Helen) had bullied Jessie and she has little scars on her head that are almost totally healed over now, but her left eyelid was damaged, requiring surgery, and is very slightly droopy but recovering.
She is a delicate, sweet-eyed, gentle lass who was not at all intimidated by Bodie (or he by her). She's not skittish, but not fully confident of human touch. But she's found a place where she can bloom and grow and have a real life.
We're the luckiest couple on earth today for having found Bodie and Jessie in the last five months.
Say hi, to her, Lounge (but not too loud) -
