I bought a used car a month ago. I paid cash. Dealerships do not move on


the listed price as much as they used to. I offered Kelly Blue Book at the first couple of places. They said no and I walked out. I eventually bought a 2018 Nissan Sentra and paid about 1000 to 1500 over KBB.

One thing I’d definitely do is insist on a written counter from the dealership. One or two dealerships were very squishy during the negotiating process. I’d offer an amount and they said they wanted to work with me but were reluctant to give me a specific number in response. Basically they wanted me to negotiate against myself which I’ll never do.
