Pretty underrated on this list..guy had a long and strong career
always thought "Secret Agent Man" was the perfect RnR song, that is, a rollicking fun old school two minute rocker (well, OK, three minutes) with a little alienation (aka teenage angst) as a theme.
I dunno, something about Joni Mitchell always annoyed me, even songs I liked way back when like "Both sides Now" annoy me. Totally on me, I recognize her talent, just one of those things, Can't stand U2 either, that is, other groups everyone loved but I didn't.
Wow, haven't heard or thought about Al Hirt in forever, Good case of a totally forgotten talent. Early days of "stereo" he put out a record where he has a conversation with a woman and he goes from one speaker to the other where the woman was. That was way cool uh, 55-60 years ago.
Even Mary Travers dissed herself, she went out solo and, of course, the audience wanted to hear PP&M tunes, she said basically she was just a little extra harmony on those tunes. Definitely a little bit of a hot babe as a career there. Michelle Phillips said kinda the same thing about the Mama and Papas, her job was to keep a lid on Cass Elliott's singing. 'course this was many years later so maybe being dismissive to change the conversation to something other than the Mamas and the Papas.
Not sure how a producer would ever be the most talented, sure they can make the song better but I would think most talented means playing the instrument and writing songs, not being the polish.
Seriously, I can go with Joni Mitchell, just never registered with me.
