When I stepped off the last flight of my last trip 1.5 wks ago, I learned that my girls had been in a horrible car accident, but fortunately were okay.

Last night, when I got off the jet in Oakland after arriving from Japan, I learned that MrsFr8Dog had to make a very difficult decision by herself yesterday afternoon. Our almost 11 yr old yellow lab, Thistle, fell down a number of times yesterday morning. Concerned, MrsFr8Dog hustled her over to the local vet, where an X-ray revealed probable tumors, on her spleen and/or liver, that had ruptured and she was bleeding out. She raced up to another vet in Cary better suited for treatment, but was informed that 80% of the time the tumor is malignant and that radiation/chemo might only at best give her a few months. She made a very difficult decision, while I was unreachable over the Pacific, to let Thistle go in peace, and join our other pooches in Doggie Heaven. For the first time in almost 25 yrs, the Fr8Dog family is without a Labrador Retriever.

Last night Thistle joined Laika, Maggie, Mucho Libre, Schemer, Ellie, Lily (Great Pyrenees) and Denny (Irish Wolfhound) in Doggie Heaven. VNAV knew and howled and wimpered all night last night, missing his buddy and “big sister”. 😢

Thistle had been in a funk for about a year after we lost Ellie, but a yr ago VNAV transformed her into a “puppy” again. Her last year was outstanding. 🥰
