Saw several VT commits and freshmen at the 18u Winter Nationals (Virtual)
Incoming freshman Landon Gentry lit it up at Claude Moore. Collegeswimming.com has him 4th in his class nationally and top in VA. The 18u virtual Winter Nationals is a mashup of the top times in meets held in early December nationwide in lieu of the normal Winter Nationals held in one place with qualifying times required. Landon won the 200 fly and was second in 100 fly. Landon was also a solid 13th in 200IM. Current FR Youssef Ramadan won the 50 and 100 free and was third in 100 fly. Those two are going be a formidable duo and should really help the medley relays.
VT FR Caroline Bentz was third in 100 back and fourth in 200 back.
Also saw women's commit Janika Perezous at the meet (11th in VA). Turned in a solid performance.
Kind of hard to judge the overall national rankings with some regions not fielding local meets to feed into the overall national virtual. Also hard to tell where everyone is in their training cycles. I know some teams rested and tapered for the meet, and some just gave their swimmers a couple days rest. I can tell you, though, Gentry, Ramadan, and Bentz had some really solid times. Gentry's 2 fly was just amazing.
