I don't think there is a reason to freak out about variants
Well...at least not from a mortality rate standpoint. I am certainly no a scientist but I think these variants are spread long before they are discovered. By the time we discover a variant from another country in the states. The person that has it almost always has no connection to the country of origin. Which means its already everywhere.
