I'm 39 and have been dealing with back spasms off and on for 18 mos.

I injured my back the very last day before transitioning from a very active, on-my-feet role with my company to a desk job, which was just about the absolute worst way it could have happened. Now I never get to move around, and since I've been working from home since March, I don't even have the luxury of my adjustable height desk to allow me to stand up and stretch for a while. I've been trying to stretch daily, but so far I am still frequently in pain and am not seeing any improvement. So I can totally identify with you. At this rate, I fear what 60, 70, and 80 might feel like.
