Forecast appears to have been a huge swing and a miss for entire region

We were supposed to get 3-6" of snow (allowing for forecast outlet variation) but I was awakened early this am by the sounds of pinging on the window here in NOVASUX. My foggy, sleepy brain was trying to process how snowflakes could make that much racket. All sleet and freezing rain here.
