We were deployed into the desert and we were eating our MREs exclusively during this period while doing some "scouting" behind "enemy" lines.

A few years prior, there was a competition with M&M about finding the "purple" M&M. Whoever could find it, would win $1M.

So, we were eating our MREs and many came with M&Ms. One of the guys in my unit yelled "I found it" and sure enough, he had the purple M&M in one of the contest bags. He then proceeded to tell everyone that he was done with the Army, done with this stupid deployment and was going to take his money and sit on his ass. He then got overly aggressive towards our leadership with a bad attitude because he thought he was done. When we got out of the desert, he called M&Ms. They said that the contest had been over 3 years and that if you looked at the contest rules, it was restricted to the "first" person who found it and that was 3 years ago. He was upset especially after he was soon to be busted down in rank in an Article 15 proceeding for telling a NCO to "f6#% off".

M&M did give him a "lifetime" supply (X many bags per year) for his troubles.
