During the invasion of Warsaw by the Germans in 1939, Radio Poland
stayed in service until the very end. When the station was finally about to be evacuated, they began to play Chopin's "Heroic" Polonaise on an endless loop, judging it to be the music most likely to inspire Poles and/or irritate the Germans. It played for hours until the SS troops finally entered the station and shut everything down.
