The Velvet Underground studio albums - some of the greatest music ever made. Timeless and sublime. Unf*ckwithable.
"Transformer" - see above.
"Berlin" - has grown on me over the years.
Most of his later solo work - inconsistent. Sometimes great, sometimes just ok. But never terrible, and when he was good he was very very good (as in most of "The Blue Mask.")

"Metal Machine Music" - a whole other discussion. Joke or groundbreaking experimental work? Maybe both, who really knows.

I interviewed Lou on the phone once during radio days, 1984 or so. I was highly nervous beforehand as I had heard he could be a difficult interview, but he was great. I put a lot of thought into what to ask him and he must have liked my questions, as we talked for a while. There's a tape somewhere, I just don't have a reel-to-reel deck anymore. :)
