I thought they made her look plain enough for the role

with the curly hair and such. To me, far worse examples of pretty women tried to make look 'ugly' are in She's All That or Miss Congeniality, but they certainly didn't make the movies not worth watching or I couldn't get over it.....I really like both and have already seen Yesterday more than once. But the original characters were way too attractive to start with, IMO.....moreso than in Yesterday.

A similar example is in movies where actors are obviously not the athletes they're supposed to be.
