Florida initial scouting report
I have an interest in UF basketball so have watched a few of their games this year. Overall I really like this matchup for the Hokies especially if Omar Payne doesn't play. He was ejected their last game far a particularly malicious cheap shot x2. He is their 2nd big guy and is much more physical than Castleton.
On offense the Gators play what I would call AAU ball. Their top 3 plays are probably ball screen for Mann, Iso for Mann, and some form of motion offense starting with Mann. They have a minimal postgame outside of Castleton putbacks but are a pretty good shooting squad (3 guards shoot high 30s). Locke, Appleby, and Mann will play almost the entire game... Mann is a big problem though as he's a 6'5 guard who will shoot from anywhere and has an NBA style game. We match up really well with the other two guards, and at the 4 Mutts will have an advantage over the Lewis/Duruji rotation.
On defense, the Gators are very undisciplined and love to poke at the ball, jump passing lanes, and double the post (in a very predictable way). They struggle guarding off-ball screens but do have a rim protector in Castleton. Don't be surprised to see us turn it over 4+ times with our perimeter passes or bringing the ball up leading to easy runouts. With a full 4 days to scout I think MY will be able to draw up something that has their heads spinning. Aluma should have a distinct advantage over Castleton athletically so expect to see him on the perimeter a lot.
