I probably wouldn't either, but there would be takers...
But a single camera setup would literally cost dozens of dollars. If even 30-40 people paid, it would likely turn a profit. You wont have 25000 people.... but probably a few hundred.
Spend a little more and make a student production out of it and you could probably pull in more per viewer and attract 1-2k viewers. Maybe more... maybe substantially more.
There are so many super easy ways to make it work.... 1000 are allowed to attend under the assumptions used at the time of the announcement... so coordinate to get 250 high level donors in with three other folks of their choice each. Even if thats free, it builds interest from the high level donors.... maybe they're more inclined to give more money (if just 10 of those donors make a comparatively modest increase, that can be helpful).
Its just unfathomably stupid to just outright cancel... especially when that announcement was mere hours (minutes even?) before an announcement of loosened restrictions coming. It's lazy. It's..... VT.
