The coach is committed to playing the players who make the team better.
If you are left sitting on the bench, then how long should you remain committed to the team. At some point you have to consider moving on. If your college dropped your major, you would transfer because they are not preparing you for your future. If as a player you are not being prepared for your future, then perhaps you should go somewhere that will better prepare you for your future. I hate to see players transfer, but they can't sacrifice their future career. Yes, most of them don't have a future in the NBA, but perhaps some lesser league. They spent years chasing a dream, and should not be expected to give up on that dream to be loyal to a team, coach and school that says they don't have what it takes to contribute to that team as was expected when they were recruited. Some of these kids can develop if they can find the right school and situation, perhaps even develop enough to have some kind of career as a basketball player. Why should they give that up to play 5-10 minutes off the bench for a team that, as it turns out, they might not be the fit they had hoped they would be, or the coach hoped they would be? We like to keep the needed depth and experience, but at some point the player has to put his future ahead of the team, just as every other student at the school is focused on what is best for their career. You are at college to prepare for your career. If your college is not providing you the education you expected you transfer, if a player is not getting what they need they transfer. I might not be happy about it as a fan, but I certainly can't expect the player to sacrifice their future income so I can have some bench depth on my favorite team.
