Last night, I awoke at about 1:30 AM to the sound of bird calls from right outside my bedroom. I believe it was just a single bird, and it was incredibly vocal. I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to pinpoint the kind of bird (I can really only recognize the obvious ones like blue jays, hawks, "whippoorwill", etc.), but it seemed to have at least 5 or 10 different calls. This went on for at least 10-15 minutes, and maybe longer, as I think I fell back asleep before the bird stopped singing.

It seemed really strange to me for this bird to be calling in the middle of the night. Do any of you bird experts have an idea why a bird would do this? Was this just a confused feathered friend, or some kind of avian booty call? Perhaps a nocturnal predator like an owl was on the hunt and this bird was sounding the alarm? I don't think I've ever heard a bird in the middle of the night before, so I am very curious what that was all about.
