After her no hitter yesterday against Georgia Tech, Keely Rochard was asked by HokieSports about pitching with a big lead and responded, “Pitching with the lead is just so relaxing. Also, I'm just really proud of our team and how we adjusted so well. I've said this before, but it's really hard for the same pitcher to face our team twice and have success, because we are so good at adjusting."

So I pulled out the box scores and, of course, Keely knows EXACTLY what she is talking about.

On February 18th, Clemson’s Valerie Cagle shut the Hokies down in an 8-1 win. The next day, she tried for an encore and the Hokies scored 6 runs in just 2 innings.

On February 20th, FSU’s Kathryn Sandercock beat the Hokies 7-1. The next day, the Hokies got her for 2 runs in 3 innings before she was replaced.

On March 13th, NC State’s Abby Trahan beat the Hokies 8-0. That was her one moment of glory, as the next two games, the Hokies got her for 5 runs in 3.2 innings followed by 9 runs in 2 innings.

This weekend, Georgia Tech’s Blake Neleman beat the Hokies 6-4 Friday night. On Sunday, the Hokies lit her up for 6 runs in 2 innings.

The Hokies do seems to adjust very well, especially compared to how teams do when facing Keely multiple times. She seems as dominating in game 3 or 4 as she is in game 1.
