The 2012 CBA made it easy to get out from under rookie deals...


it's not like the old days where a 1st round rookie contract was a cap anchor. 1st round picks have been getting cut/traded with much more frequency since 2012. Two decades ago, drafting Johnny Manziel or Josh Rosen would have set a franchise back for several years, but those days are long gone. A corner with top 10 talent but injury concerns is absolutely worth the risk in the bottom half of the 1st round- only the top 10-12 corners are getting a 2nd contract, so good corners on rookie deals are a valuable commodity in the league.
