On January 3, 2009, the bitcoin network came into existence with


Satoshi Nakamoto mining the genesis block of bitcoin (block number 0), which had a reward of 50 bitcoins (worth over $2.8 million today, May 5, 2021). Bitcoin hit the level of $1 for the first time on February 9, 2011.
