I don't believe Duke even put in a bid to host and consequently, they are not on the list of 20 predetermined sites that was released two weeks or so ago. Only those sites can host regional games.

BUT...Duke could still land a #1 seed and be sent to one of the preapproved sites, which would probably be home to a #2 seed. Not ideal for them, but it could happen. When they first announced the preapproved sites, the chairman of the selection committee acted like that scenario was a real possibility. But then the NCAA got approximately 35 or so sites that bid and now it looks like almost all of the Top 16 teams will be able to host. Duke MIGHT be the exception.

A #1 seed gives a team a couple of minor advantages, such as an (supposedly) easier 1st round matchup and the home team designation in the 1st game and any subsequent games when the team have been the home and away team an equal number of times.

Because of the fact that they won the ACC tourney and played a much tougher schedule than Duke, I personally think that the Blue Devils deserve a #1 seed over Clemson. But if they get it, they will not actually host.
