The criticism of the Chung situation was effectively that he wasn’t black. The “wrong kind of minority” comment was insulting but it was cover that they wanted a black person for the position and that was that. That’s the problem. It’s also basically saying that if you’re not black, don’t apply. That’s illegal. So if we say, we need a “minority” to replace Frazier, that’s code for we need someone who is black. Not much of a difference.
