It wasn't as simple as pick the top guy and click a button. He had to persuade Fu to pick VT over staying at Memphis or the South Carolina opening. Also remember when there was some concern briefly that Fu would open the 2018 season with the FSU-VT game... in Nole gear... but he was convinced to stick around.

The jury is out on WB and we should have moved on from Fu last year. But hiring him was a well regarded move that wasnt exactly easy to pull off. Criticisms of WB lie elsewhere.
