Blacksburg and his relationship with Steve Prater who was the pro at the old Blacksburg Municipal Course - now called The Hill with 9 holes. Lanto moved to Blacksburg from California with his hippie parents (his description) when he was a young boy. He took up golf and when his father passed away of brain cancer, Prater took him under his wing and helped him grow into the golfer and the man he is today. Blacksburg CC gave him a membership so he could play there. It is a great story. Unfortunately, Griffin played at VCU and not Tech.

Does anyone know the background story as to why Griffin didn’t go to Tech or why Tech wasn’t interested in him?
