I chose a football scholly over Ivy back in the day.

Ivys then were all need based financial aid. So there was no additional allowance for athletics. You had some modest tuition (they squeezed whatever they could from your parents), plus the expectation of student loans and summer jobs to pay tuition. It was a no brainer for me with my parents already paying tuition for a sibling to take the full scholly. Somehow I do remember being accepted to Brown without applying - which was weird - but all costs were similar across the board for all the schools.

Patriot League was like Ivy but had athletic grants. I remember Lehigh getting tuition down to something like 3k a year total with no loans, etc.
