The ruling doesn't do that at all, IMO. It may upset a small number of ppl
that held out hope for a chance to go back to an outdated sham of a model that never really existed ("amateurism" in revenue-generating sports) but the ruling doesn't do what you suggest.
If anything, the ruling will (likely) allow fans from smaller schools like Vt to understand the battle and the "terms" of the current game and recruiting. That injunction was issued years ago, and represents the only realistic way forward. The NCAA model created a black market for "free" but highly valuable labor in certain sports. The NCAA model is gone.
College sports will need to undergo wholesale changes to "survive" moving forward. If anything, this may put more pressure on unexpected sources, like the NFL (to develop a D-league).
I haven't had the time to focus on where this goes from here, but I've always believed that the college model was unsustainable. The model will continue to get crushed under its own weight. The weight of coaches' salaries ballooning up to $100 Million. And TV contracts in the billions. That's what killed college sports as we once knew it. Once the money got that big and the stakes got that high we all knew where this was going. [Post edited by hokie4life2 at 06/21/2021 2:38PM]
