Read a paper - yes I did - on it suggesting it was part of the same plume that created Bermuda, which was apparently a hot spot for a while, but that's when they dated it to 30myo so yeah, I'd be curious to know what the theory is these days, just a deep fault or something?

Always been fascinated by the geology of the Appalachians which once was the center of the (land) world.
