The focus was not on the efficacy of the mask itself, but on user error:

Really? This sounds like a rant, not science.

“there is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any particular benefit.” He added, “In fact there’s some evidence to suggest the opposite” because of the possibility of not “wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly” and of “taking it off and all the other risks that are otherwise associated with that.”
What is this person even saying here? There is no evidence that there is a benefit, but there is evidence that "SUGGESTS" the opposite. That's hardly convincing stuff there. Then he goes on again about user error. And then finishes with all the "risks" of taking a mask on and off? Seriously? WTH is he even saying there? It's pure babble.

Next is Rand Paul: “Most of the masks you get over the counter don’t work.” This most certainly implies that SOME over the counter masks DO work. And, in fact, they do. Soooo...what is the problem with just wearing the ones that work? That's what I do. I have no problem doing it either.

I pretty much just stopped there. Wearing a N95 mask has at least some effect on stopping the transmission. And it is a painless and inexpensive way to do it. This is about common sense for me, not politics. I really can't fathom why everyone gets so worked up about it.
