This is largely due to anti-gun politics in Massachusetts


Massachusetts keeps trying to make what S&W manufactures illegal.
From that article it sounds that S&W is keeping the forge shop and a lot of machining in Springfield. I've been in the S&W plant in Springfield and they have a huge investment in forges and machine tools there.
