It was, and always has been, "weaksauce."


UVa used to say Tech only had success in the Big East because it was a weak conference. Then Tech joined the ACC and cleaned up for the first few years because VT was used to playing a smash-mouth brand of football. It turns out the ACC was the weak conference. Fast forward another decade and now VT has assimilated into the creampuff style of the rest of the ACC.
