At the end of the day the kids are the ones that matter, they are the players, the students, and the future supporters of the program. VT is not and never has been an established power with established traditions beyond the Core of Cadets. We built our brand on playing what was then a modern brand of football that brought a new era of crowd energy. We were the first to play starters on special teams, the first to lean on dual threat QBs, the first to create an intro based on modern-ish music.

We haven't even had a marching band for 50 years, so I say lean into being the anti-traditionalist, we need to differentiate. VT needs to be the cool alternative to our peer schools, otherwise we get lost in the shuffle because we can't compete on tradition and history. I think we can all agree the coolest thing our band ever did was play Stick it in, which non-coincidentally was banished by the same type of crowd that this thread is full of.
