In general, for any team, your next head coach is going to be one of these (in no particular order)

1. Someone who is very successful at a lower level (e.g. won championships at the FCS level)
2. Someone who is successful at a lower caliber team at your level
3. A successful assistant at your level or higher
4. Someone who failed at a higher level but was previously successful at your level (e.g. a fired NFL coach who was a winner in college)

So if you're, say, a MAC team, then maybe you're interested in a coach who is being fired by a Power Five team. But we're not going to be interested in going in that direction.

And when you hire your next coach after firing the old coach, you almost always go a different direction than what you previously did. So I'd bet money that we're NOT doing #2 from my list above.
