Spoke to my financial planner on Monday ...
and he reminded me of something I should know as a guy with an engineering degree and a math minor. If you don't review your 401k investments regularly and 'shoot the dogs' (his phrase, not mine) you are wasting A LOT of money. I found several investments in both equities and bonds where I could easily make 3-4% more per year. I have spent the rest of the week reviewing each investment and finding better options where necessary. Over a 5-10 year period the difference is well worth your time. Obviously this isn't something that should be done every month but not checking it periodically and making adjustments is just leaving money on the table.
