From Fuente’s perspective, if there is value to VT…


In having an immediate coaching vacancy, his negotiating number starts at 10. Whether Fuente stayed on as a lame duck or walks away immediately, VT could still say they have a vacancy. The compromise value derives from the ability to not be coy with prospective hires about Fuente’s status.

I would actually prefer to have the 8.75 payoff, an announced vacancy, and Fuente coach the final two games, because I think that is our best scenario to win. I think the offer was legitimate.
