I am actually a Virginia fan but have great respect for VT and your football program. In 1992 Beamer went 2-9 in his seventh year and you all didn’t fire him even though he had a losing record at the time. Look what he did.

We had the same situation with George Welsh. What I mean is that once you have some success the fans start having unrealistic expectations.

I think VT is taking an enormous gamble. Not only are you taking an 8.75
million bite but who are going to get? A lot of coaches will look at Fuentes record (which wasn’t that bad and better than Bronco Mendenhall’s) and wonder “what do I need to do to have a long term relationship in Blacksburg?”

Justin went 4-1 against UVA and I always felt like he handled himself with a lot of class. I personally liked his style and just seemed like a good person.

I think Whit Babcock has taken an enormous risk and what if the next guy doesn’t work out?

If you look at some of the better programs that have not done well recently (Tennessee, Texas, USC and Auburn), they each have the same thing in common, they have not exercised patience with coaches.

I played college football and what many administrators don’t really understand is when you fire a coach, you are going to disappoint a number of players. Be prepared for a ton of players going into the portal and the class you have currently committed (it’s a very good class but it will hard keep all of them).

My point is this, you all 30 years ago showed great patience with Frank Beamer and it truly paid off. I think you have closed the door too quickly with Fuente and whoever takes this job (remember USC, LSU and TCU are looking for coaches.

Unless Babcock pulls a rabbit out of the hat, you need to have enormous patience with the next coach as he will have a helleva challenge in my humble opinion.
