Are you insane? Banff Springs GC is one of the game's finest treasures.

The Canadian National RR bankrolled the great architect Stanley Thompson to build it back in the 1920s. There was some Donald Ross work on the site earlier, but Thompson only kept one or two green sites. It was long known far and wide as the best course in Canada, though that is arguable these days since the routing was adjusted with the advent of a new clubhouse.

The round used to tee off from a mountainside spot next to the hotel, with the opening tee shot over a raging river. Now the former 5th hole is the 1st. The once-Olympian finish of 14-18 is now holes 10-14. The centerpiece (and world famous) par-3 8th is now the 4th. The whole rhythm of play was messed up. But Banff still might be the most scenic and spectacular golf course anywhere.
