Korbin returning may have thrown a wrench in Sam’s progression.


Korbin returning was somewhat surprising based on interviews he gave toward the end of last season.

With Eddie and Flynn as 125 options, I think the plan was for Sam to move up to 133 this season. Korbin returning impacted the slotting of the other three. The staff was likely hoping we get the same AA results at 125/133 and could manage Sam’s weight throughout the season. His body maybe saying differently.

Not complaining because Korbin is awesome, but Sam is probably taking one for the team as his body appears to have outgrown 125.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this reminds me of Sean Fausz’s last season at NC State. He struggled throughout the year at 125 because of the logjam at 133/141 with Tariq Wilson and Kevin Jack.
