Comments regarding slow starts
So, reading this I could not help thinking about this comment by CMY under “How do you start faster?”
as follows:
“I thought we had some good cracks at it in the first four minutes of the first half and couldn’t get them down.”
I didn’t remember it the same way so I watched the first 4 minutes again. In the first 4 minutes I saw 6 possessions, of which 3 were turnovers. My opinion about the 3 shots taken:
The first one by Cattoor was coming off a pick into the lane that was contested and missed badly with 13 seconds still on the time clock.
The second was a good 3 look off a screen for Cattoor that missed.
The third was a 3 attempt by Mutts into a closing defender with 9 seconds left on the shot clock. I can’t really call that a “good” shot, particularly with Mutts shooting it.
So, my impression of the first 4 minutes was 3 turnovers, 1 good shot that missed, 1 shot under pressure from 3 point range by one of our not greatest 3 point shooters that missed, and 1 bad shot that missed badly with 13 seconds still on the shot clock.
Maybe he just misspoke about the first 4 minutes, I just hope he’s getting his assessment right as he tries to fix the reasons we get off to slow starts. My opinion is we have been too undisciplined and taking bad shots when we should be more careful with the ball and more patient at getting better looks in the early going.
