I agree, maybe his co-workers had a notion he might do this who knows

Burnop says in the RT write he just learned about it yesterday morning when Jon called him.

I'm struggling too not thinking there's something more to the story here, but best to just take everything at face value until fully led to believe otherwise. It seems to me like he had 3 more months tops of calling games, assuming he would do baseball again in the spring, so why not wait til then. But maybe his heart is just in this different direction right now.
